About the farm
Solidaridad is a family running farm began producing coffee in 1994, working together with only one variety: Catimor. José Ramón Jarquín Gómez, now the producer of the farm with more than 26 years of experience, has worked with different coffee varieties such as Catimor, Catuaí, Java, and Maracaturra, the last of which he is currently optimizing to produce more has provided excellent opportunities in both local and international sales.
This year, he sent a sample to the departmental Best Coffee Competition in Matagalpa and obtained third place. He then enhanced the sample and submitted it to the Cup of Excellence competition, where he achieved second place in the washed category.
The effort behind this second-place finish included his experience and technique in coffee production, foliar fertilization, systematic pruning and a highly homogeneous and mature cherry harvest, all of which contributed to this great achievement.
The farm is located in a geo-referenced area that produces a niche of high-quality coffee, which will now allow him to secure good prices internationally—not only this year but in the future as well.
Winning the Cup of Excellence enables him to seek new markets in Europe, potentially Asia, or beyond. It also promotes his community and encourages other producers and cooperative members to participate in the Cup of Excellence in the future.
