Kenya Nyeri Burumani Estate SL28 & Ruiru 11 Natural

Burumani Estate is a family-run specialty coffee farm located in the high-altitude region of Nyeri County, Kenya, sitting around 1,652m above sea level. Founded in 1979 by Mr. Gikonyo, the estate began with just 500 coffee bushes and has since expanded to more than 3000 trees. Majority of the coffee trees are SL28 with a few Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties.

Nyeri County in Kenya is ideal for coffee farming due to its cool, wet climate, fertile volcanic soils and high altitude. These factors contribute to slow bean maturation, resulting in high-quality Arabica coffee with bright acidity and complex flavors. The region’s handpicking and washed processing methods enhance coffee quality, while sustainability practices like agroforestry, organic farming, water conservation, and soil preservation ensure long-term productivity and reinforcement of its reputation as a top specialty coffee producer.

In 2024, Burumani Estate installed a sun dryer to support the Natural processing of the coffee beans.This method enhances the coffee's inherent sweetness, body, and complex fruit notes, making their lots highly sought after by specialty roasters and featured on international auction platforms like ACT.
