About the farm

Ngacha Coffee Estate is a family-owned coffee farm located in the high-altitude Gichugu division of Kirinyaga County, Kenya. Situated on the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya at elevations between 1600 and 1700 meters above sea level, the estate was founded in 1954 by John Muriuki Ngacha. Today, it is managed by his son, Martin Muriuki, who has transformed the property into a hub for innovative, high-end micro-lots.

The estate spans approximately 7.5 cultivated acres of rich red volcanic soil, a terroir that combines with cool highland temperatures to slow cherry maturation and maximize sweetness. Ngacha grows primarily SL28 and SL34 varieties, alongside a small portion of Ruiru 11. While honoring traditional washing methods, the farm is highly regarded in the specialty coffee industry for its cutting-edge, experimental processing, including anaerobic naturals, yeast inoculations, and honey processing. This meticulous care yields an exceptionally complex, vibrant cup profile characterized by sparkling acidity, rich tropical fruit notes, and a clean sugarcane sweetness. Because of this distinct quality, Ngacha Estate coffees are frequently showcased by top competitors in global coffee championships.
